The regular session "Incontinence. A holistic care"of a training course in home care for immobile patients, organized by Health service "Caritas St. Petersburg" jointly with the Open Company "Hygiene-North", took place the 18th of April, 2018. The aim of the lesson was to learn how to master basic techniques of providing qualified assistance, while maintaining respect and tact.

The seminar "Social work focused on the client. Principles and tools" was held at the Monsignor Hartmut Chania House (18 Ryabinovaya street) the 13th April, 2018.
Our colleagues, social workers of Andrey Rylkov Fund of assistance to protection of health and social justice (http://rylkov-fond.org/) came from Moscow to share their experience and best practices with social workers and psychologists from St. Petersburg.
We are grateful to Elena, Maxim and Vyacheslav for creating a working atmosphere in which participants could learn and try ways to interact with a person, support him on the path of change, motivate and set goals, share responsibility within the framework of social support.

The seminar was organized by the staff of the social youth center "Ostrovok" ("Little Island"), one of the charity projects of the "Caritas SPb".

There will be next training course in the field of home care for bedridden patients, organized by the Health service "Caritas SPb" together with the LLC "Hygiene-North", the 18th of April, 2018 at 10.30 at the adress Ryabinovaya str., 18.
Topic: Incontinence. Overcoming challenges in the care".
Representatives of the LLC "Hygiene-North" will show all the production which can facilitate care of patients. Participants of the event will be able to get not only new knowledge and skills in nursing, but also qualified answers to their questions from nurses of the project and representatives of the company.

Our wards prepared for Easter day warmly and joyfully. They baked, painted eggs, made cards and gifts for friends and donors.
This Easter week, there are tea parties with Easter cakes and traditional games with painted eggs in all charitable programs of Caritas. All our beneficiaries have received small gifts from donors!
Doris Epple took care of visitors of the nutrition Center for the homeless and dining room "Tatiana". Traditionally, each visitor received a cake and a painted egg.
Our grandmother Doris did not forget the children in Luga. The children prepared for Easter celebration, drew a wall newspaper, made cards for donors and they received not only traditional eggs and cakes, but also huge kinder surprises and sweets at Easter.
| Home for the elderly
Easter week is full of joyful events in our House.
We met the Resurrection according to the tradition of the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Our big family prepared to celebrate Easter. Everybody participated in daily prayers and solemn Liturgy on Easter night, painted eggs in our kitchen, baked cakes and greeted the guests. Our grannies visited an Orthodox Church and attended dibine service.The Orthodox Church has been built 500 meters from our House recently.
And yesterday we had a real holiday with songs and disco! Our friends, Franciscan monks, came to visit us! And we rejoiced together! Christ has arisen! Indeed risen!

The Day of the homeless was commemorated in Russia the 26th of March. And we conducted an art lesson in our Game room the 23d of March. The children and their mothers created a layout of a big house for everybody. In the beginning, we built a lot of small houses filled with love and light, and then we gathered all the houses together, so that everyone had enough space and could share our joy! Our house is a DREAM house. It is joyful and beautiful, there are no troubles and problems in our house. We all want to live there! Fairies and wizards live in our house. There is a jogging track and rooms for princesses.

The Day of the Homeless, annual day of solidarity with people who find themselves on the street, is commemorated the 26th of March. In modern Russia, more than 4,5 million people live on the street. They are still called incorrect and outdated word "vagrant" adopted from the police vocabulary. And we, employees and volunteers of Caritas St. Petersburg, can not remain indifferent to the tragedy of these people. For 18 years, two canteens for homeless people in Pskov and St. Petersburg have been working, where we not only feed the homeless, but also help them return to normal life and maintain their health. The problem of homelessness affects all cities of Russia.
Homeless people are people who, for various reasons, often beyond their control, find themselves out of a stable life. They're the ones who need help. Almost all the homeless people want to return to normal life. It is easy to appear on the street, and it is almost impossible to get out of it independently. All the homeless are characterized by psychological depression and apathy to everything that surrounds them, they are lost in this life.
On the day of the homeless, caring people pay attention to the global social problem of homelessness, which can affect everyone, as well as carry out actions in support of homeless people, aimed at helping them to survive, at social adaptation and understanding by society.
We, staff of Caritas St. Petersburg, join this Action and thank all our donors for the solidarity, assistance and support of our canteens for the homeless in Pskov and St. Petersburg.

On March 21-13, Program managers and staff of Caritas St. Petersburg office took part in training on the topic of professional burnout among employees of "helping professions" within the bounds of the project "Institutional development of Caritas". Lessons were held far away from home, work and family. This allowed participants to escape from daily problems, to be alone with themselves and in unity with nature. The seminars were held in a wonderful boarding house on the shore of the Gulf of Finland.
The purpose of the training was to help Caritas employees working in the social sphere to overcome fatigue, crisis and dissatisfaction that arise due to the lack of visible results in the work. To achieve this goal, we had excellent leaders: our spiritual mentor father Mariano Sedano Sierra and art therapist Julia Demina. We worked, studied, prepared homework, thought, walked, rested, laughed and gathered strength for three days. Every morning the father was saying mass for us, and every night we had a warm, sincere and family gatherings deep into the night. It was a good mix of material for reflection and creativity. We were able to relax, rest, gain strength, work in teams. Before leaving, we realized that it was useful, great, but sooooo fast!!!!
