Consultation Service and Support for Families Having Children with Severe Form of Infantile Cerebral Palsy (ICP)

This project is for the most vulnerable segments of the St.-Petersburg popultation – the children with a severe form of ICP and their relatives. Their mobility is limited, that’s why they are in a social isolation and need constant care. Project helps to improve the abilities of children with a severe form of ICP, to motivate their relatives and make them more active, to integrate them into society and to organize self-help and mutual aid groups.

Actions:

• Meetings of experts and mutual aid/self-help groups for parents and the nearest environment of children with ICP;
• Training for people, who will spread knowledge (participants of the previous groups of the self-help);
• Colloquiums with experts, social and medical workers of the rehabilitation centers and correctional schools for children with ICP. These colloquiums make it possible to teach parents pedagogic and care of their children;
• Involving volunteers as assistants in a family;
• Round-table discussions for attracting attention of the state and a society. The purpose is to let them see, what problems do children with ICP have and what strategies cane be chosen to improve the situation;
• Constantly opened consulting-room; home visits, phone-consultations for persons, who aren’t able to leave their house;
• Information work and public awareness efforts must create a strong cooperation and network of the organizations and the establishments which work with problems of children with severe form of ICP. We also work with mass media in order to let people know this issue.
